Welcome to my Blog

Welcome to my Blog, Nonfiction Boutique.
I'm interested in hearing from nonfiction readers about the what books/authors you like right now. So many books, so little time to find the best new books . . . .

I also want to hear from public librarians who have tried or been to libraries with nonfiction boutiques.
By boutique I mean setting up mini-collections, perhaps out of Dewey order!, to attract readers -- a cookbook nook, a garden center, etc.

As you can probably guess, I am a public librarian.

I am a senior citizen working in a very small library with limited shelf space.
Our head Librarian utilizes an unused table, a low bookcase and a small childs table with a constantly changing display of mini collections. It catches the eye and moves otherwise overlooked books and increases circulation.

HI, One idea that might also work is to put floags in some books to draw people to them - these could be books you leave in the statcks.
By "flags" I mean simple strips of colored paper that draw the eye. In my previous library we were working on a weeding project and "flagged" the boos - what a surprise -- before we got to pulling the titles, people were checking them out!
